Claude Monet (1840-1926), French Impressionist painter.
The Impressionist movement's name came from Monet's early work.
His youth was spent in Le Havre. He excelled first in caricatures then converted to landscapes.
He lived in England for a while and at Argenteuil on the banks of the Seine,
then finally in 1883 he moved to Giverny where he created extensive, beautiful Gardens.
